Sun, Jun 8 2008 - Whaleback Ridge (View Original Event Details)
|
Whew - what a lot we packed into today. Off we went at 7AM and started on the trail at about 9AM, which felt like it should be lunch time for some who had been up since 5AM. Our leader and tour guide for the day, Jennifer, was a constant source of interesting information about the fauna and flora of the area. As well, she gave us lots of great tips for future hiking and backpack trips - - oh ya, we've started planning for those now! No one knew what to expect with regards to elevation gain and distance when we signed up so that was a surprise too. Jennifer gave us some tips on hiking steep elevation gain. None of us had been to the Whaleback area before so all was new and fascinating, and the day flew by. Who would have thought that Douglas Fir trees have been growing there for hundreds of years. What a beautiful natural area - another gem for many more exploration trips. We are excited for the next return! :)
