Due to a little sciatica problem, I wasn't able to join the hike today. I felt pretty bad about that since Ed really wanted to do Ha Ling and I convinced him to do something easier so I could do it too. I did, however, get to join the group for the apres-hike birthday dinner (along with hikers Ed, Kevin and Neva and fellow interlopers Janet, Lana, Marty, Kyle and Taylor) where I heard all about the hike. Kevin said they could have easily x-c skiied the whole route. Ed said there was a lot of crusty snow to trudge through. It's anyone's guess who to believe, unless Kevin likes x-c skiing through crusty snow.
Dinner at Salt and Pepper was great, despite a little mix-up on our reservation time (we thought it was 6:00; the restaurant thought it was 6:30). But the food was great, as was the service and the company.
Happy 86th Ed! Next year hopefully I'll be able to join you (but not for Ha Ling Peak)!
