Sat, Aug 16 2008 - Caldron Peak (View Original Event Details)
|
- Caldron Peak is a scree/scramble "festival" that provides you with a 300 m descent at the beginning of the hike hence an ascent at the end of the hike. Note that most of the hikers were in denial of this final ascent after a very long day... No helicopter or lift provided...
- The colour of Caldron lake was described by Sergio as "impossible blue" as it was unbearably beautiful along with the many waterfalls that we saw throughout the day
- The group made it to Caldron peak ( false peak ) which provides excellent views of the surroundings including Peyto Lake, Caldron lake, other lakes whose names I have forgotten (but good looking ones!), glaciers, valleys and many beautiful mountains. Check out Marcel's photos.
- The company was simply awesome as the participants had the famous 3 "F"s quality : Fit, Fun and Friendly. Seven different countries represented in this group of 11 hikers ( eight if we include the Aussie hiker we "adopted" on the way up ). Very lively group indeed who kept encouraging each other throughout this long day.
- One car decided to return directly to Calgary while the other two headed initially to Peyto's Cafe at Lake Louise however due to the fact that it was so busy, we ended up at the Drake Pub in Canmore for supper. As the levels of energy were running low at the end of the day, Sylvia was worried that some of us would not have enough energy to chew our burgers - contemplated the option of asking them to blend the food and give us straws :-). We got back to Calgary at 23h30 and even after nearly 17 hours together, we still liked each other !
- We witnessed a beautiful sunset over Lake Louise and were guided by the full moon over the mountains on our way back.
Thank you for organizing the hike Marcel and thank you to all the participants for your amazing stamina, perseverance and humour today. Pretty perfect day in the mountains...
Until we meet on the trails again, keep smiling.
