Write Up:Fantastic - in every way – People, scenery, weather. We actually were running out of adjectives to describe the scenery - and how incredibly fortunate we all were to be out enjoying our mountains.
We took the bus to Sunshine Meadows (wondered about the $25. cost), but were so impressed with some of the first views, that decided it was money well spent. The trail head is just a few feet down the road from where the bus stops. We set out on the trail around 10:30 am, and immediately were surrounded with great views. But we had no idea what was in store for us at Wawa Ridge. The coordinator was particularly taken with it - not since her first hiking adventure had a scene taken her breath away. We stopped and soaked in the views, and then started a fairly long descent to Simpson Pass. We proceeded along, mainly in trees, and except for pesky mosquitoes, were having a good hike. After about three hours, and still a ways from Healy Pass, we broke into two groups. One proceeded at a fairly brisk clip to Healy Pass, having decided to take the trail back to the parking lot; while the other group, returned the way back to Sunshine Meadows. Both groups were pleased with their choices, and were back at the destinations by 4:30 pm or so. Those who went to Healy Pass recommend this exact route as one of the best - experiencing Wawa Ridge, Healy Pass, and an easy, albeit long, descent. Six of us stopped in Banff and had very good Mexican food. A great day.
Welcome Kathy to the club; and Christine - glad to see you back and active with COC
