This is an unmaintained trail that involves some route-finding.
After we turned right off the Ribbon Creek Trail at the cairn of rocks and a big stick, we felt like we were in BC. The air was moist and the ground was covered with mushrooms and moss. The route had been fairly level until we had a steep, rooty climb by a waterfall.
Then came the decision as to how best cross a side creek, a few of us used the logs that had been placed and some walked across the rocks. We arrived at the First Lake which had a great view of the surrounding peaks and a long waterfall coming from the Third Lake.
More creek crossings and then a fairly steep climb on scree to the Second Lake. It is in a beautiful setting. Surprisingly, the Second Lake was almost completely frozen.
We had lunch here but kept it short as threatening clouds were starting to roll in. We never did get rained on and the day was mostly sunny.
Thank you for joining me on this adventure. Laura L
