We had a full day that included the Banff Film Fest and a hike to Sundance Canyon.
We arrived at the Banff Centre about an hour before the movie started so we had a chance to view the craft fair in the lobby of the theatre and to go for coffee.
The film, "The Last Continent" was about a group of scientists etc from Quebec who spent 430 days aboard their boat in the Antartic. The scenery was spectacular, of ice cliffs, sunrises and full moons, and there were great shots of penguins, seals and jellyfish. There was an adventure part to the film when the crew had to deal with fierce storms, and a human element as the individuals described how they felt along the way. The original musical score added to the enjoyment. There was interesting footage on the 1916 Shakelton expedition interspersed throughout.
The hike to Sundance Cantyon and back took about 2 and a half hours. The walk along the Bow is pretty. The canyon starts with a fairly steep climb by a waterfall and then we follow the river for a while. The water was starting to freeze which caused beautiful ice sculptures.
Welcome to the 6 newbies on the hike and a pat on the back to everyone for being where they had to be at all times and not getting lost during the various venue changes. Laura L
