Write Up:It was clear and cold when we made our way to Rummel Lake on Saturday morning. The temperature was around -20 and we moved quickly in order to keep our fingers and toes from freezing. There was new snow in the area and only cross country skiers had recently made new tracks, and only up to the trees. Otherwise, the snowshoe trail was covered with new snow. Our group of six seemed pretty focused and determined to make our way to the lake. The scenery was breathtaking and some of us paused briefly to take photos along the way. We arrived at the lake in about two hours, ate a quick lunch and started back. The sun had warmed us, but only by a few degrees, and we kept up a good pace to stay warm. This snowshoe trip was relatively uneventful until Andra decided she wanted to take a picture. But, because it was so cold, she chose to take the picture without removing her mitts. Well, she apparently tried to use her tongue to snap the picture and her tongue froze to the metal camera body (bet the Safety Coordinators never thought to warn against this!). Needless to say, Andra didn't speak much on the way back to the trailhead. On the way down we did take advantage of all the deep snow by bushwhacking through the trees and we made it back to the car by 3:00.
