Fri, Jul 15 2005 - Burstall Pass (View Original Event Details)
|
This is a terrific hike - about 18km round trip, there's a bit of elevation at the beginning, then a long flat section, then some elevation, then a long flat section, then some elevation up to the pass. There's a river crossing, and because we've had such a wet year so far, the "river" was more like multiple streams and mud bogs which we had fun figuring out how to get around, over and through.
As in all "pass" hikes, the views here are my favorite kind - there's a great view of mountains behind you, and then when you get to the top of the pass, there's another spectacular view of a whole different set of mountains in front of you. The alpine terrain is beautiful and fascinating.
I highly recommend doing this hike. Remember to take some sandals or extra shoes if you don't want to hike in wet boots for most of the day.
