Last night's storm hit Calgary just a couple of hours before game time and had me wondering how many would venture out to play tonight. To my surprise however, everyone showed up and we even managed to get in 3 full 30 minute frames by midnight. With blizzard like conditions outside, playing in the bubble for the first time since its collapse back in December was a little nerve racking to the say least. Several times throughout the evening we could hear large amounts of snow give way and slide down the side of the bubble crashing to the ground with a loud thud. It was a crazy night but I happy to report the bubble held and we all survived :)
It was another good battle with the game remaining very close through the first two frames. After the 1st, Blue held a slim 1-0 lead and by the end of the 2nd not much had changed as Blue was still holding on to a goal advantage taking a 2-1 lead into the 3rd and final frame. In the 3rd, Team Blue extended their lead to 3-1 only to have Gold come right back to make it 3-2. With about 15 minuites to go it looked like it was going to be another exciting finish until Team Blue suddenly caught fire. A string of nice passing plays and good ball control lead to 3 quick unanswered goals by the blue squad to give them a 6-2 victory. Depsit the final score it was a very evenly matched , well played game by both teams and as usual alot of fun was had by all!
Tonight's "Player of the Game" award was presented immediately following the game to Alex Tikhonov who has been a regular attendee of this event for some time now. He always arrives with an enthusiastic smile on his face and can't wait to get on the field. He is a talented team player who plays hard and demonstrates great sportsmanship. It is a pleasure having you on the team Alex. Congratulations on your award!
After the game the majority of us headed upstairs to the Soccer Centre pub where we arrived just in time to enjoy a round of drinks before they closed up shop for the night. As always it was nice to have the opportunity to sit and socialize with everyone for awhile before heading home. Thanks for coming everyone, it was a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to next week!
