What a treat to finally be hiking beyond the winter gates! The trail up to the ridge was mostly clear of snow, though once we gained the ridge there was a fair bit of it. In a few days this should be a mud-lover’s paradise. We had lunch in the trees before heading for our ‘summit push’ to Forgetmenot’s north end. Blowing snow and good winds greeted us there, so we just stopped for the mandatory group photo. Views were impressive from early into the hike: Mounts Glasgow, Cornwall, and Banded Peak to the west, the full extent of Nihahi Ridge and Powderface to the north, and the Calgary skyline to the NE.

All day we kept in mind the COC group who was an hour behind us, could have bet that Garnet’s fast ones would pass us, but we escaped them until we came down the from the top of the ridge. Then back down by the river we ran into people on horseback who ended up giving us a lesson on stud piles. Lovely topic to end the day.

Thank you to a great group for making this another great day in the mountains!
