Cory Pass is one of the most spectacular hikes near Banff. The 2,300m defile frames the monolithic south face of Mount Louis to create a view that is usually reserved for mountaineers. And after gaining a vertical kilometre of elevation to get there, you will feel like a mountaineer. Parks Canada also describes this as one of the most difficult hikes in Banff National Park, best suited to those with strong hiking and route-finding skills. We will complete the entire circuit going clockwise. The pace will be slow for the uphill portions and moderate for the rest.

Trail Directions:
   · From trailhead kiosk, cross footbridge and turn right (south) onto wide path through aspen forest.
   · Keep left (north) at the hiker symbol (bike symbol to right).
   · At km 1.1 turn left (northwest) at the signed junction to Cory Pass.
   · Trail continues through open meadow. Wildflowers in late May & June. Views to Banff townsite.
   · Continue up short, very steep section before emerging on ridge offering expansive views to west.
   · Grade levels as you traverse to saddle and rock bluff.
   · From pass, descend half-way down scree slope.
   · Turn right to traverse along north side of Mount Edith.
   · Near east end of scree slope, angle uphill to the right (southeast) into stunted fir and spruce.
   · Wide, well-worn trail continues to Edith Pass junction.
   · Rest of loop is gradual descent through mossy forest along a creek.

IMPORTANT - Read:
   · Be prepared for a long, demanding (but very rewarding) day.
Includes a couple of very steep sections, short bit of downhill scrambling requiring hands and feet, and route-finding.
Cory Pass & the scree slopes can be snow-covered until early summer.

   · Do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary.
We will be out to enjoy the day and event duration may vary.

   · Pace:
We will be sticking together as a group, so no racing ahead is allowed. If one person needs to stop, everyone stops.
