Elevation:890 metres(as per GPS taken on trip) Approximate distance: 16 kms round trip Hiking boots required.-Sorry no sneaker type footwear or jeans. We will follow a dry creekbed to switchbacks through a pine forest and climb to the summit of Mt Burke and find an abandoned fire lookout which dates back to the 1920's. Great views of Cataract Creek, and the High Rock Range. 360 degrees of visual delights.Note that there will still probably be some icy patches as alot of the hikes currently have therefore, please bring your icers or some sort of ice traction, icers are Mandatory safety equipment.(no icers=no hiking) IMPORTANT - Read: Pace & sticking together as group: If you like to race ahead or race to the top, do not sign up for this event, this is not a speed demons hike. We will be going at a slowish pace for the uphill portions, more moderate for the rest, and will be sticking together as a group. If you cannot abide by this, please do not sign up.If you've never hiked before or switching from urban hikes to mtn hikes you should start with lower elevation. Drivers are needed: If you can drive, please indicate how many people you can take, including yourself. In case of a shortage of drivers, the last people to sign and who are unable to drive will be moved to the waiting list until drivers are available. Do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary. We will be out to enjoy the day and event duration may vary. This a 'Meet at Carpool' only event. Sorry, no meeting at the trailhead. | |||||||
