Itinerary: | |||||||
Elevation:890 metres Approximate distance: 11 kms round trip Hiking boots required.-Sorry no sneaker type footwear or jeans. Heart Mountain is described an easy scramble with one moderate (3 meter) step/wall that you will need to do(no turning back-see photos) on the northwest ridge. It can often be ascended year-round thanks to the chinooks that blast the route bare, and "remains a favourite early season pilgrimage where you can reintroduce flabby muscles to the rigours of steep hiking" (Kane). 800m of elevation gain occur on the slabs between km 1 and 4. ICERS will be mandatory, and hiking poles are strongly recommended.
Trail Directions:
References:
• Helmets are optional. Pace & sticking together as group: If you like to race ahead or race to the top, pls do not sign up for this event, this is not a speed demons hike. We will be going at a Slowish pace for the Uphill portions, more Moderate for the rest, and will be sticking together as a group. If you cannot abide by this, please Do Not sign up.If you've never hiked before with 600M or more and switching from urban hikes to mtn hikes you should start with lower elevation. I will be checking you COC history and might touch base with you. Drivers are needed: If you can drive, please indicate how many people you can take, including yourself. In case of a shortage of drivers, the last people to sign and who are unable to drive will be moved to the waiting list until drivers are available. Do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary. We will be out to enjoy the day and event duration may vary. This a 'Meet at Carpool' only event. Sorry, no meeting at the trailhead. | |||||||
