Itinerary:
**Now with the new VROC - Vancouver Regional Outdoor Club!

See link:
http://www.vancouverregionaloutdoorclub.com/events/det ails.asp?eventid=135

This trip is amazing!! See wildlife, sleep on islands. There's a reason this place is called the Sunshine Coast.

Expect 3-5 hours of kayaking per day.

Participants will be expected to show some proof of experience and completion of a sea kayak self-rescue course. Although this is one of the safer places to kayak on the coast, there are long crossings and potential for wind (- >3- 5 ft waves).

NOTE: You must travel with the group. Personal kayaks will only be accommodated with permission of the coordinator. Right of refusal will be based on the kayak being appropriate for the trip, or accommodation/cost of transport.

Itinerary:

Saturday - We'll travel out to Vancouver, stay in a hostel.
Sunday - Shop for fresh groceries and travel up the coast (at least to Powell River).
Monday - AM, set off with the kayaks from Lund. We'll make it to the north end of the Copeland Islands.
Tuesday - kayak to Curme Islands
Wed - to W Redonda Island - Roscoe Bay - walk to Black Lake - swim/clean up - kayak back to Curme Islands
Thurs - back to Alice Island
Fri - back the mainland and as far as time allows.
Sat - back to Vancouver -- night out and stay at a hostel.
Sun - back to Calgary

Required Items to Bring:
List of required items and coordination of gear to share will be organized as a group through e-mails and meetings.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
A fun, accommodating, group-oriented attitude. If you challenge this expectation, you may be asked to withdraw.

How to Get There:
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):2500Km
Carpool Departure Time: 7:00 AM
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
** Calgary Transit Info
Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $450.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.18, effective Wednesday, September 08, 2010). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Notes:
I will be reserving boats at the launch site at Lund.

Travel will progress at the speed of the slowest kayaker and under limitations imposed by the coordinator (based on conditions).
If you can't be patient for others or won't consider group safety over self-fulfillment, this is NOT the trip for you.

There are six already signed up with VROC (some from Calgary)

There will be a total of 12 people on the trip, with a combination of Calgary and Vancouver members.

If you are on the participation list, you will be required to pay within 48 hours, or you will be bumped back to the wait list (essentially at the END of the line). No further warnings will be given.

Payments must be made by mailed chq or by Internet banking transfer by email to the coordinator. No Payments will be taken by the COC. Please email the coordinator if you need more info on this.
