*** A rock climbing helmet is required for this scramble. No helmet = no event *** The forecast in Kananaskis and Banff once again looks not so promising. This trip will take us south towards the Crowsnest Pass. The current forecast can be found here.
Distance: 8.5km round trip Many scrambles are a long hike into a short sharp scramble. This scramble is a little different. It is a scenic 2.5 to 3 hour drive along the Cowboy Trail. The montaigne country of the Porcupine Hills is fabulous. Crowsnest Mountain is dominating heading west into Crowsnest Pass. It, along with Seven Sisters to its north, stands alone out there. Once at the trailhead the scramble starts right out of the gate. While the coordinator likes to take long breaks at the summit (if conditions permit), we will be moving at a STEADY MODERATE pace. For your own safety and for the enjoyment of the group, if you move at a slower pace or like to take frequent breaks, then this event is not for you. You will be REQUIRED to have done at least TWO D5+ hikes/scrambles THIS SUMMER in order to participate. The coordinator will be checking your event history. In the event that the weather turns nasty (ie. snow), another scramble (up to moderate difficulty) or difficult hike will be selected in another area. If registered, please pay attention to your email for updates. Please note that the coordinator has not done this trip before. Please allow time/patience for unforeseen circumstances. References:
Should the group be quick enough, we may spend a little more time exploring the area. Afterwards, we will be stopping for dinner on our way back to break up the return trip. | |||||||
