Itinerary:
Sibbald Flats - NIGHT MTB - * LIGHTS *
Distance: 15-16 km
Elevation Gain: 100m

Bring your (serious, off-road) lights and let's do a backwoodsy, MTB and maybe Moose Spotting excursion.

Join us for a mountain bike adventure in the dark. Novices and more advanced riders are welcome to join us - we can explore different options. You MUST, however, have a 10-watt (or greater) lamp, handlebar- or helmet-mounted. Here is an example of the type of light you need - an inexpensive headlamp is not sufficient to light the trail. MEC lights ( or even better these with about 700 lumens.

Here's the weather forcast - no excuses there: (well the weather *would* be here if those weasels at theweathernetworkwq didn't keep changing their java applets)

This trail has moved a couple notches up in Gord's list of favorites as the road to it is now paved to within 11km of the trailhead (it used to be a crappy gravel road for 35km).

The trail is 16.5km with about 100m of elevation gain. This trail is well drained and all creek crossings are bridged. There are some gentle downhills, good vistas, and passes through open meadows and forests. There is single-track, double-track and some gravel road. We will return via the route that we came on and which will make it about a 14.5km loop but we can get more off road riding experience if anyone wants a side leg up Tom Snow North of a couple kms.

We will ride from Dawson to Spruce Woods trailhead (7km) and turn around there.

This trail (#36 page 72) is described in detail in 1999 edition of "Backcountry Biking in the Canadian Rockies" by Doug Eastcott. Trail reports from the Gov are here: tprc.alberta.ca/parks/kananaskis/ XCSkiTrails%
