Itinerary:
Distance : maximum of 20 kms
Elevation gain: about 350 m

First we will go to the Lake Louise Information Centre at the Samson Mall to check on trail conditions. Pipestone Loop: The terrain is gently rolling and trails occasionally follow open meadows or shorelines of small lakes. The starting elevation is about 1700 m. The plan is to begin with loop # 1 which is about 12.6 kms and then depending on the stamina of the group as well as how much daylight we have left, continue with loops # 2 & 3 to complete the 20 kms/more practice on turns and downhills.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Pipestone Trails, it is a very peaceful area quite close to Lake Louise and yet much quieter. It definitively deserves quality time to explore.

Please note the following:
- This event is geared towards semi-beginner to intermediate level skiers who are:

  • NOT absolute beginners (obviously)
  • Willing to stick to the group
  • Travel at a moderate pace
  • Willing to hold on to a 2-way radio if asked to
  • Be at the pre-determined rally points to avoid departure delays/worries
  • Comfortable in interpreting trail maps

- Only sign up if you have the ability to complete at least 12.6 kms (P1 loop) or that worth of skiing time. Otherwise, you will be suffering from a psychological state resulting from a situation that lacks motivation, or from enforced continuance of an uninteresting situation. :-)
- Depending on the carpool driver(s) and the consensus of each of the carpool group, some might be stopping for grub on the way back. Please refrain from signing up for this event if you need to be back early in Calgary.
- Bring your cheerful personality as the plan is to have FUN while enjoying those beautiful surroundings.

There is NO avalanche risk on the groomed sections of the Pipestone Loops network.

Important: This event is geared towards those who possess at least some cross-country skiing experience and would like to gain more confidence. This event could prove to be boring to Advanced skiers.
