Height Gain: 1000 meters Distance: 12.5 kilometers (roundtrip) Panorama Ridge is not a single summit; it is rather a long ridge paralleling Consolation Valley above Moraine Lake in Lake Louise Area. After hiking the official trail to lower Consolation Lake we will lose the crowds by fording the Babel Creek (sandals very helpful!) and heading up the avalanche gully to reach the mid-point of the ridge. The environment is spectacular: Front row view of glaciated Mt. Quadra, east face of Mt. Temple and both Consolation Lakes sitting deep bellow will give photographers plenty of Kodak moments. After lunch break we will decide wheter to traverse entire ridge, depending on comfort level of the group. If we do so, we will descend from the highest point down the rubble and pick up the exit trail above Upper Consolation Lake. Main difficulty areas will be:
This trip is best suited to strong hikers or scramblers. Also the 4-hiker rule in now in effect for Moraine Lake area trails. All participants need to stay with the group for the duration of the trip. Everyone should also bring creek crossing footwear such as sandals. | |||||||
