The plan is to do 2 hours of night riding, so you need to have night riding lights.
I do have one spare pair of lights if someone is itching to try night riding - first come, first serve. Preferred lighs are a 900 lumen handlebar lamp and 250 lumen helmet mounted lamp. As a minimum you must have at least a 10-watt or 250 lumen handlebar lamp, along with a helmet mounted lamp. An inexpensive headlamp is not sufficient to light the trail. This ride is 60% pavement and the rest some little used pathways including a bunch of interesting, twisty, singletrack. Usually an interesting route, we've seen Owls, Porcupines, Coyotes, Rabbits, small bush bashes (they thought they were getting busted, it was total deer-in-the-headlights) and one naked couple (probably too cold for that so don't get your hopes up).
From the meeting point we will ride South along the west side of
the Bow, cross over at Ogden to the East side and down to
Riverbend Park. Then up through the neighbourhood, across
Glenmore to the Irrigation Canal, past Max Bell, past the Crack
addicts (just kidding, it's too cold for them too), through the Zoo
and back to meeting point. Total distance is 33.8km but an easy
33.8km as there is little elevation change and a fair amount of
pavement.
You must have a good light system capable of at least 2+ hours
of light and have a back-up light in case your main one runs out
of juice. Join us for a mountain bike adventure in the dark. Novices and more advanced riders are welcome to join us, all riders that can maintain 20kmh on flat pavement are welcome. You MUST, however, have a 10-watt (or greater) lamp, handlebar- or helmet-mounted. Here is an example of the type of light you need - an inexpensive headlamp is not sufficient to light the trail. MEC lights about 250 lumens ( or even better these with about 700 lumens. Here's the weather forcast - no excuses there: | |||||||
