Itinerary:
Round trip distance: 28 km , Elevation: 300m This trip is for (semi)intermediate capable of skiing 6-7 km/hr.
Cascade Fire Road is a 14+ km out to Stoney Creek Bridge. There will be minimal regrouping on this trip, possibly only at the turn-around point.
Note: Location may change to similar or lesser distance in Lake Louise if snow conditions in Banff detoriate.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:drive east from the town of Banff for several kilometers, pass under the Trans Canada Highway, and continue up te Lake Minnewanka Road.This road is soon blocked off (to protect wolf habitat) and you must run right at the Johnson Lake turn- off.Continue along this road for about 10km to the large parking lot at Lake Minnewanka. Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $72.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Winter Safety Considerations

Terrain Classification: This event is exempted from avalanche planning because it is on groomed x-c ski routes.

Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip.
