Itinerary:
Yes, still another edition of the Friday night (winter) rides.

With the new snow last weekend, we will see how the conditions are this week. It is not supposed to be too cold - though cooler that earlier in the week, so bring your lights (and studded tires would be a good idea) and lets get out there! It will be light outside for a while now, but lights are needed as it will get dark while we are out!

This time we will be starting at the parking lot at 37 St and 66 Ave SW. It is the south end of 37 St where it goes into the park and becomes Glenmore Park Road. The parking lot is on the west side of 37 St.

We should be go to go for a BBQ social after the ride in the parking lot again! Richard says he can bring a BBQ and firewood so we can build a fire to keep warm too. We'll cook up some smokies and have some snacks. Bring something (hot or cold) to drink. Bring some extra clothes to put on for this part too!!
Let me know what you can bring to contribute. If anyone has a lantern or two, please bring them along.

Friday night means not having to worry about a late night (as long as you don't work on Saturday)
Total distance for the loop is about generally about 20 km, mostly flat except for the hill down to the river at North Glenmore Park, and up again on the other side of Weaselhead. There may be some harder sections though. Exertion level varies with the amount and consistency of the snow. The west part of the path is not cleared by the city.
The snow should be packed and hopefully not too deep. We will chose a route according to conditions and participants. There may be some ice again too. There are generally only a few places like this - have your studded tires, or walk your bike if it seems necessary.

Required Items to Bring:
-A mountain bike with studded tires (or really wide knobby tires set at lower pressure should work).
- Bike Helmet with a thin toque or balaclava (A Ski Helmet also works well for this event).
- Good lights-at least 10 watts or 250 lumens along with batteries good for 2+ hours.
- Backup light - good flashlight at least so you're not totally in the dark if there is a problem with your main light.
- Warm clothes, in layers, as for XC skiing (cycling and skiing generate similar amounts of body heat).
- Backpack with water or warm drink in a bottle, snacks, dry socks and extra clothing layers.
- Warm clothes for the BBQ afterwards!
