Itinerary:
Read Carefully: This is a combination of the moderate physical difficulty/novice technical difficulty rated Redearth Creek fire road (bike portion) and an easy hike continuing on to Shadow Lake (hike portion). It will be moderate in the sense that we won't be rushing up, but you need to know how to ride your bike on dirt trails and be able to continue with a hike. You must come prepared with all the proper mountain bike and hiking gear.

Distance: 28.4km+ (21.6km on bike + 6.8km hike + Shadow Lake exploration)
Elevation Gain: 440m (325m on bike + 115m on hike)
Key Elevations: 1,400m at Redearth Creek Trailhead | 1,725m at bike drop | 1,840m at Shadow Lake
Difficulty: D4. This will be a leisurely day, including photography stops and some walking around at Shadow Lake. (This trip is mainly about the scenery - bring your good camera)

Redearth Creek:
From Backcountry Biking in the Canadian Rockies by Doug Eastcott:

The Redearth fireroad is of litle interest in its own right, but if you treat this trip as a bike 'n' hike, it provides access to some spectacular country just east of the Great Divide. The trail is always within the trees but there are lots of viewpoints. Pilot Mountain towers to the east of the valley while Copper Mountain lies to the west and the peaks of the Sawback Range can be seen across Bow Valley.

Although the fireroad climbs out of the Bow Valley and into the valley of Redearth Creek, the hills are gentle and the road is smooth making this a relatively painless ride. You'll cross a couple of bridges and pass by backcountry campground before reaching the Shadow Lake trail (closed to bikes) and the warden cabin. The cabin marks the end of the cycling route. Park /lock your bike and continue on foot from there. The retun to the highway offers a fast and pleasant finale to a grand day.

Hike continuing on to Shadow Lake:
From Canadian rockies Trail Guide by Brian patton & Bart Robinson:

Situated beneath the massive cliffs of Mount Ball, Shadow Lake is one of the more impressive lakes along the Great Divide. ... Shadow lake is large compared to with most subalipine lakes, stretching for over 2km to the base of Mount Bal (3,311m). Carved from Cambrian limestone and quartzite formations and draped with glaciers, the mountain provides a photogenic backdrop for the lake.
