Itinerary: | |||||||
Distance: 23.5km
Elevation: 570m Since this is a long hike, we will be moving at a brisk pace, while allowing for several quick breaks to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. The lookout is on Mt. Aylmer's south ridge, where it commands a dazzling view of Lake Minnewanka - a long, winding, inland fiord - 570m below. The panorama includes Mts. Inglismaldie and Girouard, across the lake, and the Bow Valley's southern reaches beneath the Mt. Rundle masif. Because the fire lookout building is long gone, the lookout is actually just a lookout site, but the view is as sweeping and stirring as ever. Listed as an "Outstanding shoulder season hike" (trip 117) of "Don't Waste your Time in the Canadian Rockies" by Kathy and David Copeland. The weather is changing, although the forecast is promising at the time when the even is posted, be prepared for snow / ice conditions and bring enough warm weather gear please. | |||||||
