Itinerary:
This will be a fairly relaxed pace trip around the reservoir since I can't go very fast at the moment! There are some options to our route, but will make the trip all around the reservoir.

It may be a bit icy, but I don't think it will be very bad if at all. Since it has not been warm enough to thaw and freeze again, it should be just packed snow where the pavement is not cleared. It is supposed to warm up on the weekend so it will be a great day for a ride!

We are starting at the Glenmore Aquatic Center (5330 19 St. S.W.) It is pretty well on the route around the reservoir if you take the route including the dam. We'll head towards the reservoir from there.
Total distance for the loop is about generally about 20 km, mostly flat except for the hill down to the river at North Glenmore Park, and up again on the other side of Weaselhead. There may be some harder sections though. Exertion level varies with the amount and consistency of the snow. The west part of the path is not cleared by the city.
The snow should be packed and not deep (good), but watch out for ice (bad). There are generally only a few places like this - have your studded tires, or walk your bike if it seems necessary.

Of course there is the optional stop somewhere (Like Original Joes) afterwards for food/refreshments.

Required Items to Bring:
-A mountain bike with knobby tires set at lower pressure will work (or studded tires).
- Bike Helmet with a thin toque or balaclava (A Ski Helmet also works well for this event).
- Warm clothes, in layers, as for XC skiing (cycling and skiing generate similar amounts of body heat).
- Backpack with water or warm drink in a bottle, snacks, dry socks and extra clothing layers.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
- Multi-layer shirts, jersey, sweaters, fleece, wind shell/ski jacket.
- Long-johns/tights, and wind/snow pants over top.
- Riding boots or shoes with insulated booties.
- Multiple layers of socks.
- Neck warmer or scarf, Arm-warmers.
