The COC Training Team (Veronique & Sylvia) are responsible for providing educational sessions where members can learn about different aspects of the outdoors, specifically:

a) providing educational sessions to members
b) raising awareness about different aspects of the outdoors
c) increasing the members' safety while enjoying their activities in the mountains
d) providing everyone the opportunity to ask pertinent questions

Join us for a free evening presentation and Q & A with one of Canada's leading expert in Outdoor Risk Management. Jon Heshka, (B.Sc., B.A., B.Ed., M.E.d, LL.M, Associate Dean of Law from Thompson River’s University)

Great for individuals that lead trips.

It will change the way you think about managing risk when you organize events/take groups out. The legal risk management issues in outdoor recreation, which includes hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, skiing/snowboarding (alpine, Nordic, AT, etc.), running, racing and cycling. Basically anything you can do outside to have fun and invigorate your spirit. Risk management is about planning, organizing, directing and controlling uncertainty(falling rocks, etc…)

Topics that may be covered may range from:

- Legal Releases and Waivers.
- Risk Management vs. Safety Planning
- Risk Tolerance and Acceptable Exposure
- Decision Making and Leadership
- Emergency Response Planning.
- Contracted Service Providers
- Evolving Risk Management Thinking

There is a lot of misinformation out there so come and learn from the best.

**********IF you have any questions that you would like answered, you can email me and I will forward to the guest speaker ahead of time so that they may possibly be included in the presentation.**********

Please only register for the session if you are 100% committed to attend it. Unreasonable last minute cancellations(2 hours or less prior to event) and no shows preventing others from attending the event will be recorded. Thank you for your consideration for other COC members.
