Itinerary:

It's recommended that for members who are thinking of doing this trip, that they have at least x-c/skied once this year. This has been rated by Parks Canada as "easy". However, pls note that at one point there will be a long gradual uphill, so this means that there will be some elevation gain.

From the parking lot we will ski north to the far comer of the meadow and follow a roadway through the spruce forest. About half a kilometre down the road, the ski trail branches. Either branch takes you to the Cascade fire road, a short distance away. The left branch climbs over the ridge in front of you while the right branch circles around the end of it on level ground. Once on the fire road, the ski trail stays on it and soon begins a long uphill climb. At the top of the climb, there are several kilometres of skiing over flat terrain, past swamps and meadows, before the road winds downhill to the Cascade River. From here you can see the river flowing into the upper reaches of Stewart Canyon. The canyon was formed eons ago when glaciers filled the Cascade River valley. Pleasant ski with good views and a fun downhill run on the return trip. 6.4 km-track set one way to the bridge over the Cascade River. (If we were to do the whole trip, which we are not, it would be 28km return with 180M gain, however on this trip we are skiing a total of 12.8km return)
Please be warned that your event coordinator has not done this x-c/ski before but wants to check it out. Allow time/patience for unforseen circumstances please.
