Distance: ~9.7 km approx.
Elevation Gain: ~100 m

We'll start from the Peter Lougheed Visitors Centre and connect to the Penstock Loop trail via the Canyon Trail (approx. 2 kms). The Penstock Loop snowshoe trail is well marked and crosses the Smith-Dorrien a couple of times. We may also be doing some exploring off-trail.

We will be travelling at a slow to moderate pace and taking time to enjoy our surroundings.

In the event of a lack of snow, please bring appropriate footwear, including icers.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take Hwy 1 west out of town. Go south on Hwy 40 for approx 56 km. Turn right onto the Kananaskis Lakes Trail just before the winter gate. Follow the signs to the Peter Lougheed Visitors Centre.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $90.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Friday, April 19, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
