Ultimate & Wings #25
THIS EVENT IS INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO ARE LOOKING TO PLAY AT A RECREATIONAL LEVEL FOR FUN AND EXERCISE ONLY. OVERLY COMPETITIVE AND/OR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Come join us for a fast, fun, friendly game of Ultimate Frisbee this Sunday afternoon at Stanley Park. The game involves lots of running, jumping, stopping and starting so wear sturdy shoes and be ready to get some exercise. All levels are welcome however we will be playing for FUN and EXERCISE not world domination, so if you're a highly skilled player be prepared to tone it down a notch or two and make an effort to include ALL your teammates in the play. After the game join us at one of Calgary's Best Pubs, The Joyce on 4th Irish Pub and refuel with an Outdoor Club Combo featuring 5 jumbo wings and a 20 oz. pint of any of their Gas Lamp craft beers (or non-alcoholic substitute) for just 5 bucks! *Offer available to COC members registered for this event. Ultimate Basics 1. The Field -- A rectangular shape with endzones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with endzones 25 yards deep. 2. Initiate Play -- Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team. 3. Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score. 4. Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count. 5. Change of possession -- When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. 6. Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout. 7. Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made. 8. Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone. 9. Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes. 10. Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Healthy competition is always encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play. Those who have Frisbees, feel free to bring them!

How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Stanley Park is on the north side of 42 Ave SW, just west of the intersection of 42nd Ave and Macleod Trail. I recommend parking along 42nd Avenue up towards Crescent Blvd to get the best view of the park and easily locate us. There are also 2 parking lots on either side of the park but these are usually full. One is located just beyond 1A Street off 42nd Ave SW and the other is just east of the intersection of Park Avenue & 4A Street SW. Transit Users: Travel by C-Train to 39th Avenue SW and then walk just a few blocks south to the park. After the game, join us at Joyce on 4th Irish Pub: 506 24th Avenue SW
