Pace: relaxed yet moderate - no speed demons please.
Register only if: you have experience with the above stated distance/elevation and do not have to be home by a certain time - there are no guarantees when it comes to hiking so if in doubt, don't come out. :) From the trailhead, we will hike along the old lookout pack road to the foot of the mountain. From there we will find a very well constructed set of switchbacks that will take us all the way to the top of the first peak. At this point the trail levels out for a while as we head for the main peak and the final ascent to the fire lookout. Moose Mountain is located halfway between the prairies and the first range of the Rocky Mountains offering an unparalleled view for 160 km in all directions.

Note: This trail has some very rocky sections so good supportive hiking footwear is a MUST. Also it can get very windy at the lookout. Please ensure you bring some warm clothing as well as wind/rain gear regardless of the weather forecast. If conditions are ideal, plan to spend approximately 1 hour at the lookout.

How to Get There:

Follow Hwy 8 west then Hwy 22 south to Bragg Creek. At the 3 way stop sign at Bragg Creek, turn left to stay on Highway 22. Reset odometer to 0. Turn west (right) onto Highway 66 and continue west. At 16.7km (just beyond Paddy's Flat) turn right onto a dirt road. Continue on this road for 7km until you reach the trailhead parking.
