Itinerary:

This trip is not recommended for beginners. Please do not sign up if you are unwilling to hike as a group.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT, YOU NEED TO PAY WITHIN 24 HOURS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE WAITLIST.

"The Rockwall is a spectacular limestone cliff that stretches 53 km along the northwest boundary of Kootenay National Park. Along the base of this massive escarpment runs the Rockwall Trail, the most well-known backcountry trail in the park. Hikers on this demanding rollercoaster trail are treated to unparalled view of soaring peaks & hanging glaciers, and wildflowers."

We will not hike the entire Rockwall Trail which is 55km in length. Instead we will do a shortened version at about a total hiking distance of 40 km.

Itinerary:

DAY 1: Saturday, August 1st
- Drive to Floe Lake trailhead and hike along Floe Lake Trail to Floe Lake Campground.
- Camp at Floe Lake Campground. No fires permitted
Distance: 10.7km
Elevation: gain 697m

DAY 2: Sunday, August 2nd
- Hike along Numa Pass Trail & Great Divide Trail to Tumbling Creek Campground.
- Camp at Tumbling Creek Campground. No fires permitted
Distance: 16.8km
Elevation: gain 1,115m (315m to Numa Pass, plus 800m to Tumbling), loss 1,150m (830m to Numa Pass, and 320m to Tumbling)

DAY 3: Monday, August 3rd, Heritage Day
- Hike from Tumbling Creek Campground back to Paint Pots trailhead.
Distance: 10.6km
Elevation: loss 440m
- Drive back to Calgary

When you sign up, please indicate if:
* you have a 2-person tent
* you have a backpacking cooking stove
* you have a preference of sharing a tent with a male or female

We will be SHARING tents - 2 persons per tent, one tent per campsite. NO EXCEPTIONS.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Drive West on Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) to Castle Junction (past Banff, before Lake Louise). Exit, take Highway 93 southwest towards Radium, BC. We will need to arrange car shuttle between Floe Lake and Paint Pots parking lots.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $120.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Friday, April 19, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
