Hike Description
While the gate is still open, let’s take that opportunity to enjoy a wintery adventure into the Highwood area backcountry. Our route will start with hiking up to and then skirting Elbow Lake. We'll follow the Big Elbow Trail that will lead us to the Upper Elbow River Valley which we will meander through. After that and then passing the Tombstone Campground, we will eventually reach the intersection to veer off to our destination lakes, the sibling Upper & Lower Tombstone Lakes that sit at the base of Tombstone Mountain. After a leisurely potentially longer lunch, we will hit the trail home with the possibility of exploring as we go which may add some distance and minimal elevation gain.

Come prepared for the potential of full on winter hiking. Warm and waterproof layers from head to toe will make your adventure much more pleasant.
