Itinerary:
Are you a skier or snowboarder who has some free time this winter? CADS (Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing - and snowboarding!) is looking for more volunteers of all ski / boarding ability levels to assist as instructors and assistants for this coming season. No training is needed - it's all provided for you!

Because the group's main information night has passed, this event will be more of a 'learning' opportunity, followed by a chance to speak to experienced instructors and supervisors about volunteer opportunities for the upcoming season. This event (Friday evening) is a an information session on Cognitive Delays and Autism, to give existing and prospective instructors / volunteers some background information for their teaching practice.

For those who are interested, there will also be an on-snow session the next day, Saturday, November 26th, where you will have the opportunity to learn about and try each of the disciplines offered by the Calgary branch, such as Sit-ski, 3-Track, Learning Disabled, Visually Impaired etc. I am only coordinating the Friday evening session, but can put you in touch with a CADS supervisor (also a COC member) who can best direct you for the Saturday event.

There is no charge to attend this event (either day), however if you wish to commit to volunteering for the season, there will be an annual CADS membership fee of $40, payable upon registration. Registration can be done on Friday evening in person, or online at the end of either Friday or Saturday's sessions. Benefits to volunteers include discounts on lift tickets at various ski areas (on seasons passes after a season of volunteering), weekly ski / snowboarding improvement by certified instructors, instructor training in your chosen discipline, and discounts on CSIA / CASI Level 1 courses.

More information about the program, benefits and the training / lesson calendar can be found on the CADS website: http://www.cadscalgary.ca

Several COC members volunteer as instructors for the program - you're bound to see a familiar face!
