Categories: Trail Training, Nature, Coffee Shop, Kids
Approximate Distance: 8 km
Degree of Difficulty: Easy, with some hills at the beginning, followd by a flat, paved path

Bowness Park has many trails, but the best one is the hidden, forested path that remains a local secret. The paved path along the Bow River takes you to this treed hike. Climbing dirt paths and stairs elevates your heart rate as you trek through evergreens. Take a breather and enjoy peephole views of the Bow River below before reaching the summit and the neighbourhood of Valley Ridge. Loop back down along the paved path or backtrack through the forest. The short loop passes through a Douglas fir forest on the south side of the laboon. A longer loop passes under the impressive Stoney Trail and follows the Bow River Pathway, past Baker Park and Bowmont Park, before looping back along sidewalks through Bowness.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:West on Bowness Road, about 12.0 km from downtown Calgary at 48 Avenue and 88 Street NW (follow the signs for Bowness Park). When you come down the hill into Bowness Park, you will see the lagoon and the Lagoon Cafe on the right. Stay left to start with to keep going deeper into the park. The road splits and forces you to go right - keep following it. Head right over toward the river and keep going along the river toward the Stoney Trail overpass which you'll see in front of you as you head along the river. There is a raft launch area and some parking spots - meet there.
