Bow River Float 32c and sunny forecast

Hey the forecast is looking good for Saturday (not that that means anything) but let's keep the faith and plan for a fun day out on the Bow River to escape the heat if not the sun!

A gentle river float down the Bow from Bowness Park to Prince's Island. We will make a short stop at Angel's Cafe located along the river at Edworthy Park. Here you can grab a bite to eat and use the washrooms. They have burgers, smokies, wraps, cold drinks, ice cream and more! After a short break we will head back into the water to continue our river adventure.

VARIABLE SCHEDULE:
11:00AM Meet at Lazy Day Rafts by the curling club just east of 3rd Street NW off Memorial Drive. Arrange shuttles. Head over to the put in where we will need to inflate rafts etc.
Noon-ish Begin Float
Noon to 3pm float the bow with a bathroom/snack break at Edworthy
3:00PM-ish Arrive back at original meeting spot (3 St NW off Memorial Drive across from Prince's Island), deflate/return boats and pack up. Return to start to retrieve vehicles and have a BBQ
5:00PM Guestimated finishing time
PLEASE NOTE - timing on this event is a vague outline that WILL vary. Please plan for delays and be aware the event may finish earlier or later.

The general idea is to either bring your own inflatables or we rent a group raft from Lazy Day Rafts. Besides raft rentals they rent lifejackets at $5. Group raft rental cost will be divided between whoever is using it. The $20 event cost is an estimate for raft rental but the actual cost will depend on how many people and rafts we rent.
www.lazydayraftrentals.com for more info.
You may join the group raft or BYOB but you will need to ensure you have or rent the required items.

IMPORTANT: after signing up to the event you will need to contact me within 24 hours to let me know if you have a boat/kayak/inflatable of your own, OR if you will be joining the group raft. If you will be joining the group raft then I need a $20 deposit via cash or email transfer. Until I get your deposit you will not be guaranteed a place in the raft. If less than $20 then I can return that on the day. Leave it too late and you may have to walk the plank and swim behind.

Note that wearing your PFD (personal floatation device/life jacket) is THE LAW and mandatory at all times while on the river. When out on your own you may use your own discretion, but when participating in a COC event, everyone must wear their PFD at ALL TIMES on the river. You will be turned away if you arrive without one.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO OBTAIN YOUR OWN GEAR FOR THIS EVENT SO BE SURE YOU ARRIVE WITH ALL THE "REQUIRED ITEMS" LISTED BELOW.

Once off the river and rafts are put away/returned we will need to retrieve vehicles from Bowness. When we get back to Bowness Park we will fire up a portable grill and have a picnic. Chairs and extra grills would be helpful. Please let me know if you can bring a grill.

Required Items to Bring:
- AN INFLATABLE RAFT
- LIFE JACKET (PFD)
- PADDLE
- ROPE (emergency purposes)
- BAILER (small bucket for bailing)
- WHISTLE (emergency purposes)

*NOTE: Rafts and paddles can be purchased at places like Canadian Tire, Wal Mart and Army & Navy (located at 1107 33rd St E) starting as low as about $15.00 for a basic 2 man (200lb capacity) inflatable boat. Plastic paddles can be purchased for under $10 a set at some stores. Whistles and/or ropes can be purchased at many dollar stores for a couple of bucks.

Life jackets can also be rented at Lazy Day Rafts, Sports Rent & Mountain Equipment Co-op.

NOTE: Feel free to contact me if you need help obtaining the necessary equipment for this event.

From the meeting/take out spot we will make our way over to 48th Avenue and 88th Street NW via Memorial Drive then Bowness Road, a distance of approximately 15km or so from our meeting spot. When you come down the hill into Bowness Park, you will see the lagoon and the Lagoon Cafe on the right. Exactly where we regroup will depend on how busy it is.
