Itinerary:
Let's check out the newly re-opened Douglas Fir Trail, a route that goes up and down the escarpment above the Bow River, east of Edworthy Park. This is a short but reasonably strenuous trail with lots of ups and downs. We will go east, get to the Crowchild Trail Bridge, touch the underpass bridge and then return the same way.The pace will allow the group to continue having a conversation while running.

Distance ~ 8.3km
elevation ~ 205m

We will meet in EDWORTHY PARK on the SOUTH side of the river near where the pathway crosses the train tracks. (OPPOSITE side of the river to Angels Cafe). There is a parking lot there.

This event will go snow, rain or shine! We might go for a social nearby after the run.

NOTE:
- Expect icy conditions, Microspikes or something similarly pointy will be MANDATORY
- Bring a Headlamp


Required Items to Bring:
- Trail running shoes
- Microspikes or something similarly pointy
- Headlamp with fresh batteries
- Appropriate clothing, toque, face cover, mitts/gloves. NO COTTON
Recommended Items to Bring:

How to Get There:
Event Directions:South Access: Drive west on Spruce Cliff Drive and turn right (north) down the access road into Edworthy Park.
North Access: Park in the lot where Shaganappi Trail ends at Bowness Road NW. Walk over the pedestrian bridge, left through the park and cross the railway tracks.
Transit: Bus routes #1 and #40 stop within a couple of blocks of the north parking area.

This event is exempt from avalanche planning, as it is in the city of Calgary and is considered to be generally free from avalanche hazards because it is on official trails.
