Heart Mountain is described an Easy scramble with one moderate (3 meter) step/wall that you will need to do(no turning back-see photos) on the northwest ridge. It can often be ascended year-round thanks to the chinooks that blast the route bare, and "remains a favourite early season pilgrimage where you can reintroduce flabby muscles to the rigours of steep hiking" (Kane). 800m of elevation gain occur on the slabs between km 1 and 4.

Trail Directions:
· Easy 1km approach from trailhead to the base of the ridge.
· Follow path as it climbs rapidly to the right side of the heart shape.
· Two thirds up, scramble up 3m high wall identified by red metal markers.
· From first summit continue on to second summit.
· Continue northeast along rounded ridge.
· Reach additional high points along ridge.
· Descent into mature forest towards the highway.
· Take Quaite Valley Trail back to trailhead.

PACE:
Please note that this is NOT a hike for SPEED Demon's OR if you are an advanced hiker who insists on a fast pace.We will be hiking Moderate pace on gentler grades and at a SLOWER pace on steeper terrain , and take Several short breaks to enjoy the views and take pictures-so to sum this up-relaxed pace. If you're not sure about this hike, feel free to contact the coordinator and remember to always hike within your ability in order to be able to keep up with the group. If you have not hiked before or recently hiked with 800M+, it is highly recommended that you start with lower elevations and build up from there. If you're use to "slowpoke pace hikes" then this hike is not for you- .

++++Please be sure you are confident in your ability to cover the stated distance and elevation, since we are not turning back-this is a loop.++++

******* Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are NOT trained guides. All participants are responsible for their OWN safety and equipment. *******
