The COC Training Program

The objectives of the Calgary Outdoor Club Training Program are to:
   a) provide educational sessions to members;
   b) raise awareness about different aspects of the outdoors
   c) increase the members' safety while enjoying their activities in the mountains    and
   d) provide everyone the opportunity to ask pertinent questions.

SESSION:

It's always somewhat reassuring to know someone in your party has had some first aid training, and the club wants to give our coordinators a chance to increase or refresh their first aid skills. The focus of this course is oriented to people who work or play in the back country and includes some aspects that regular first aid courses do not.
It is an AB OH&S accredited course, with a standard first aid equivalency, and a real world practical course.
You will sign up to a wait list for vetting. Priority will be given to more active volunteers followed by less active volunteers. Premier members will then be offered the chance to join the event. As we get closer to the event, regular members will have the opportunity to fill remaining spots.
Once the coordinator contacts you, you must email transfer the payment to the coordinator before your place on the course will be confirmed and you get moved from the wait list to the attending list.

Remote Responder Program is a 20 hour Wilderness First Aid program consisting of 1 evening followed by two full days in a combination of classroom and outdoor settings. This course is intended for the first aider who has delayed access to emergency resources in order to prepare them to manage emergencies in remote wilderness locations. It is a great introduction to wilderness first aid and is suitable for those who recreate in the backcountry.
