This is a training / conditioning backpacking and camping event for our WEST COAST TRAIL - July 2022 backpacking event. COC members are welcome to participate, however priority will be given to those signed up for the WEST COAST TRAIL - July 2022 backpacking event. Signup on the "Waiting List" and Event Coordinator will contact you. Exact meeting location and time will be emailed to those accepted on the event.
We will backpack / hike along the Elbow Loop counter- clockwise which will lead us up the Little Elbow trail over Little Elbow Pass and return via the Big Elbow trail. Saturday and Sunday evening we will set up our campsites, subject to the Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park restrictions.
This loop has a bit of everything: single track, long climbs, fast down hills, rolling hills, small creek crossings and the best scenery Kananaskis has to offer.

The pace will be moderate and we will remain together as a group.
RANDOM CAMPING IS PERMITTED IN THE ELBOW-SHEEP WILDLAND PROVINCIAL PARK, subject to the following:
Random Camping IS NOT PERMITTED within 1 km of a designated camping facility, road, Provincial Park or Provincial Recreation Area Boundary.

Required Items to Bring:
This is RANDOM BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING EVENT, there are NO CAMPGROUNDS, NO OUTHOUSES.
- THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO SAMPLE AND TEST OUR WCT GEAR AND PROVISIONS, MAKE SURE YOU BRING THE GEAR YOU PLAN TO USE ON WCT
- Either a bear hang, bear cannister or a Ursack
- Lightweight backpacking camping gear
- Meals and snacks for 3 days (minimum 2 breakfast, 2 dinners + sustaining snacks
- 1.5L of water and water filtration system.
- Rain Gear
- Proper clothing (for wet or dry weather)
- Toiletries
- Toilet paper and trowel (for nature breaks)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:NOTE: As of June 1, 2021, you will need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass to attend this event. Please see the Alberta Parks website for more information: Kananaskis Conservation Pass
Turn left at Bragg Creek and then right on highway #66. Drive ~30 kms to large parking lot just before the entrance to the campsite on left side of the road.
