Itinerary:

Erm, read this paragraph first before thinking that this might be easy and fun to do:

The West Coast Trail is a 75 kilometre (47 mile) backpack through thick lush, wet rainforests of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The West Coast Trail takes you through many weather systems and eco-systems exploring along sandstone cliffs, navigating across rivers, sinking treks over sandy beaches, navigating tide tables, jumping surge channels, walking boardwalk, crossing in cable cars, balancing over log bridges, climbing ladders straight up and down, crossing rope bridges and of course... slogging through mud.

It is a trail for the strong willed, healthy bodied, experienced, well prepared backpacker only, one who adheres to low impact wilderness camping rules. IT IS ONLY FUN IF YOU ARE PREPARED.

A Really Cool Video You'll need Real Player to watch. (it's at the bottom of that page)

Ok enough words on the tourism bit. I'm planning on doing the West Coast Trail in end-ish June 2009. Looking for interested people who would do a slowpoke trip. Come out for a casual dinner meeting to discuss possibilities, look over possible trip mates (to make sure we're compatible and won't kill each other on the trip after 7 days :-) ) and generally have a fun night.

UPDATE:

Very Vague Preliminary Plan:
- Fly to Vancouver Island.
- Hike the Trail for 6-7 days
- Spend a couple of nights in Victoria to R&R, celebrate
- Go home to Calgary.
- This is a moderate speed trip for the easygoing, fun loving, camping and wet weather & mud lovers. (I think) we'll be averaging 12 kms a day.
- Total trip time: 10 Days

Notes for interested particpants/crazy people (like Ben):
- You must have backpacking experience. You can't fake this one, not for 7 days in the bush.
- Must be fit enough to tackle the trail with a heavy backpack.
- Those without experience or backpack fitness I’m planning for a whole slew of training sessions with a pack and backcountry camps leading up to the event. (Editor's Note: It's really Ben's plan to get people to go camping in the snow.....)
