Write Up:It was a terrific day with a great group of people! We followed the Little Bee Hive trail as it zigged and zagged upwards until we came to the trail for Mt. St. Piran. Its name had been scratched from the sign post, but looking closely, we could still make it out well enough to confirm it was the correct trail. The views were terrific all the way to summit including that of Mt. Temple with its snow and ice. After lunch, we all agreed to join another small group of hikers that were descending by way of the alternative route described in Alan Kane’s book. We were rewarded with spectacular close-up views of Mt. Niblock and Mt. Whyte as we descended to the valley below and eventually came to the back side of Lake Agnes. The route down was fairly obvious, although easy to say now, after following someone that knew where they were going :). The ascent on this hike is not a scramble, plus, there is exposure only if one purposely gets too close to the edge on the way to the summit. Even the alternative route down is barely a scramble, requiring short hand-holds only on a couple of steeper sections. The alternative route was very much worth the trip. Thanks for coming out everyone!
