Season 6 Week 6

For the second time in as many weeks a capacity crowd of 48 enthusiastic participants squeezed into Vincent Massey School's gymnasium to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck then gathered together with their fellow teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 20 round robin match ups.

While snacking on Halloween goodies between matches, each team played 10 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The Flaming Redwings (6-3-1) edged out Blue It (6-4) for top spot, while Duck This grabbed 3rd place with a 4-6 performance finishing just ahead of the Smashing Sprouts at 3-6-1.

In the semi-finals, both series required exciting tie breakers to determine a winner. Second place Blue It came from behind to defeat Duck This 2-1 while cellar dweller Smashing Sprouts stunned the top ranked Flaming Redwings in sudden death overtime to earn a spot in the championship final.

In the medal round, it was a different story as both series ended in sweeps. The Flaming Redwings bounced back to salvage a bronze with a 2-0 victory over Duck This while Smashing Sprouts completed their rise from worst to first with a surprising 2-0 victory over the appropriately named Blue It squad! Congratulations Smashing Sprouts on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
