Sat, Oct 26 2013 - Aylmer Lookout - Brisk pace (View Original Event Details)
|
As I am typing this write-up - one day after our hike - Calgary is receiving it's first snow storm of the season...
Gives all of us who were in the mountains yesterday a greater appreciation for the wonderful, almost summer-like, day we had.
Although this was a long hike, we made it to the lookout in good time, enjoying the increasingly good views as we progressed along the lake.
The conversations were also animated and colourful...until we started the ascent to the lookout, at which point we all became...let's say...focussed on our breathing!!
We were fortunate enough to benefit from a warm, dry and wind-free peak - a luxury that is rare even in the peak of the summer - and spent a good amount of time resting and napping at the lookout.
Hiking down from the lookout offered great panoramic views of surrounding peaks, and Banff Park's largest lake.
Once back at the lake level, we realised that we were not the only ones trying to squeeze in another outdoor outing before the winter season arrives, and shared the trail with several mountain bike parties.
After this long hike, we rewarded ourselves with a quick stop in Canmore, and enjoyed some refreshments and much needed protein.
Thanks everyone for coming out, and thanks to Jim and Lauran for driving us safely.
