A smaller but no less enthusiastic group of COC’ers returned to Vincent Massey School this evening to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous, Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. This week however, for the first time in COC dodge ball history, only 3 teams competed instead of four and the round robin schedule was increased to 18 games per team versus the usual 10!
Deep Red took the tournament by storm winning an impressive 14 of 18 matches while the Fluffy Fairy Munchkins came in 2nd with a 9-8-1 record followed by Big Blue at 3-14-1. With only 3 teams competing this week, the playoffs worked a little differently as the top team received a bye while 2nd and 3rd battled it out for the right to play for gold.
As expected, the Fluffy Fairy Munchkins won the opening match of their best of three series against Big Blue but the tide began to turn in game 2 when suddenly the Munchkins were washed away by a Big Blue tsunami and were never heard from again! In the gold medal round however, the once mighty tsunami slowed to mere trickle and was quickly evaporated by Deep Red who went on to win the gold in 2 straight games. Congratulations Deep Red on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
