Write Up:
Ooops, our carpool got hijacked by a 5km run and walk. The cheek of it in a "park and bike" lot. Quite a few in the group joined us at the event. We had a good group with a mix of abilities and bikes. Mostly road bikes, a couple of mountain bikes, but no unicycles. Everyone made it to the top of the pass long before the turn around time, some went an extra distance over the top. One guy turned around 50 mins before the set turn around time and 5km short of the winter gate at the far end. I think everyone agreed the weather was outstanding. Temperature was warm but a little cloud cover kept the uphill grind from becoming too warm and sweaty, then about the time most people were hitting the top of the pass the sun started making appearances. This weekend saw the road clear of snow at the top of the pass so if you're reading this and didn't join us, you have one more weekend to avoid the motorized traffic. Some of the group reported seeing a mother grizzly and two cubs relaxing close to the road but it sounds very much like it was a low stress encounter. I'd like to thank Bruce and Jason for being our carpool drivers. It was good to see some familiar faces - Margo, Nancy, Kim, Tsering, and Rene. It was a pleasure to get to know some newer faces - Laurie, David, Manuelle, Keen, Gilles, Morley, although I didn't get to spend as much time with some of you. It was also Sue's first event with the COC. Thanks to you all for joining me on the event. I enjoyed chatting with those who had time to relax afterwards, and I look forward to seeing all of you on some future event.
