Fri, Aug 7 2015 - Cycle Canmore Legacy Trail / Bow Valley Pkwy to Johnston Canyon (View Original Event Details)
|
Today we celebrated Rob's 500th COC event in style, with an amazing cycle through Banff National Park. It was a gorgeous day with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. As usual we made several brief stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and snap a few photos but little did I know, today would be extra special.
While entering the Bow Valley Parkway, I suddenly heard a voice calling my name. Out of the corner of my eye I was stunned to see it was none other than 6 time Canadian Olympic medalist Clara Hughes frantically motioning me over. Apparently she recognized me from my COC volunteer profile photo and was hoping to get a picture of the two of us for her Facebook page. Obviously I couldn’t refuse a National celebrity so I happily agreed to pose with her and several Olympic hopefulls she was out training with. After giving the girls a few tips on how to make their Olympic dreams a reality, I quickly jumped on my bike and caught up to the rest of our group in record time.
Not long afterwards, we finally arrived at Johnston Canyon for lunch. We managed to get a table on the patio where we refuelled and relaxed for well over an hour before beginning our return trip. Once again we made several stops along the way and by the time we made it back, over 7 hours had magically flown by. Despite taking longer than expected, there were no complaints and a great time was had by all!
Many thanks to a wonderful group of COC'ers for joining me today. It was a blast.
