Season 8 Week 5
A smaller but no less enthusiastic group of COC’ers gathered together at Vincent Massey School this evening to compete for the most coveted prize in all of COC sports, the Dodge Ball Cup and vie for the right to have their name forever engraved on the infamous Dodge Ball Wall of Fame! As customary, participants received their team assignment based on the playing card they randomly selected from the deck. Once everyone had arrived, we kicked things off with a brief double milestone celebration. First, Roy was presented with a custom made cowboy hat in honour of his 100th COC event while John received a framed 8x10 collage featuring various highlights of his 300 event history with the club. At the conclusion of the festivities, individuals gathered together with their fellow teammates to introduce themselves and come up with a team name. After a few minutes of bonding, team names were submitted and the quest for GOLD began with the first of 22 round robin match ups.
Each team played 11 times to determine their seeding for the playoffs. The Green Go Getters dominated the pack winning an impressive 10 of 11 games while the rest battled it out for second. When the dust settled, it was Blue Barf emerging as the number two seed with 4 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties followed by Gold at 3-6-2 and last but definitely not least, the Red Hot Tacos finished with a 2-8-1 result.
In the semi-finals, both series required exciting tie breakers to determine a winner. Team Gold outlasted Blue Barf to advance the gold while cellar dwellers Red Hot Tacos completely stunned the dodge ball world by knocking off the powerhouse Green Go Getters to earn their spot in the championship final.
In the medal round, a pair of tie breakers were needed yet again to declare the winners. The Green Go Getters, still in shock from their semi final defeat, looked dazed and confused as they failed to salvage even a bronze against Blue Barf while the Cinderella story Red Hot Tacos completed their worst to first comeback with a thrilling victory over Gold to win the championship title! Congratulations Red Hot Tacos on your well earned Dodge Ball Cup victory tonight!
