It's too soon for golden larches but fall colours were on display in the Elbow- Sheep Valley this weekend. The early start meant we caught some interesting displays of light and some campers wondered where we started from to have gotten there already! We reached the Tombstone Lakes just before noon and enjoyed a long lunch in the sunshine. Instead of looping through the Tombstone Pass, which just wasn't calling to us, we made the side trip to Rae Lake. Rae Lake and the route back to Elbow Lake was now bathed in late afternoon light and the colours were phenomenal. Overall it was a 4 lake day: Elbow, Lower Tombstone, Upper Tombstone, and Rae. Lots of cheerful banter, photo-taking, and singing took place. I look forward to hiking with all these folks again soon!
