Post-Event Comment: We took new measurements of Heart Mountain and Grant MacEwan Peak with a GS16 and the elevations are as follows:
Trailhead (at Exit 105 parking lot): 1,315m
Heart Mountain (North): 2,079m
Grant MacEwan Peak: 2,177m

It's hard to know exactly what conditions will be like in the mountains and we have everything today. As we arrived at the trailhead it was raining/snowing/sleeting, but thankfully that stopped within the first few minutes of hiking. After that it was wind, wind, and more wind. All day. Virtually non-stop with gusts to around 70km/hr, bringing windchills down to the minus teens. Combined with that we had beautiful sun, light snow, more sun, some moody clouds, and more wicked wind gusts. So much wind that at times it was difficult to remain upright. We were all greeted with more snow than expected on the ascent route, which meant that usual 'trail' sections were covered and more scrambling involved. This enthusiastic group was game for all that. We pushed on, we persevered, and we were rewarded with a few really fun bum slides in the snow.
