Despite the smoke, heat and still burning fire on the side of the road near Deadman's Flats, six of us set out for our hike through Johnston Canyon and on to the Ink Pots. Though few of us had been there in many years and there was some debate as to when the last time was, we enjoyed lunch under the "Armageddon sun" and tried to avoid talking shop - but it's hard to do when half of the group was current or former instrumental music teachers - how often does that happen! Overall good conversation and we were there early enough to avoid the crowds, though it was crowded on the return. Plus the American tourists a now back, increasing the numbers.
It was great to have Andrew, Jim, Lynn, and Laura Lee join us on my first event as a coordinator-in-training and I want to thank Shelley for showing me the ropes.
