We hiked up to the Prairie View Plateau overlooking Barrier Lake (703m elevation and 15kms return). We had intended to go up to the Barrier Fire Lookout, however the cold wind at the plateau was enough to discourage our continuing up further. Once we back-tracked into the protection of the tree-line, we stopped for a well deserved lunch break. Weather was as forecasted, with comfortable hiking temperatures hovering just above 0C and we were sheltered from the cold winds by keeping in the trees. Snow conditions on the trail varied and some hiked on snowshoes, others used micro-spikes. The trail is mostly snow covered with a few bare portions near the Quaite Valley Campsite and at the final approach to the Plateau. We observed many small wildlife prints in the snow, sure sign that Spring must be getting close :-). Thanks everyone for coming out!! Happy Trails!
